2000 Pony Express Trail Run

September 10, 2000

15.1 miles

Weather: Mostly sunny, gusty winds in the exposed areas. Temperatures in the mid 50s to low 70s. Fall colors just beginning with some of the Aspen trees.

Course: Trail run around Rampart Reservoir in the Pike National Forest. Rolling dirt trail (mostly single-track) with exposed tree roots and rocks. Mean elevation about 9500 feet. Basic orienteering skills are helpful. The course has not been officially measured. A biker who had an odometer on his bike and rode the same course that the runners took reported the 15.1 miles.

Note on the results: This is not a prediction race, but runners were asked to enter a predicted finish time so that volunteers knew when to get worried about lost runners. The predicted finish times are shown in these results just for fun.

Volunteers:

Mike Collins (medical)
Skye Larrabie (medical)
Mark Kuhn (course setup, awards, stand-in race director)
Don Johnson (course setup, refreshments, water stop)
Tana Kuhn (awards presenter)
Pat Lockhart (finish line, registration, permits)
Dave Sorenson (finish line, scoring)
Woody Noleen (race director)
Daven Neubacher (bicycle sweep)
