2017 Brewers' Cup Standings

The scoring of Brewers' Cup points is independent of any team scoring that a particular event may have. That is, the Brewers' Cup scoring software that we've developed simply looks for your name in the normal results, and awards Brewers' Cup points when it finds your name in the results. The software doesn't even look at any of the team results for a particular event.

MISSION: To increase participation in all Pikes Peak Road Runners (PPRR) races while promoting local breweries through camaraderie, sportsmanship and competition.

Welcome to the 2017 Brewer's Cup - a beer/running competition in partnership with the Pikes Peak Road Runners (PPRR). Since brewery running teams are on the rise and have been present many years now, we have surmised that there is high correlation between good runners and good beer drinkers. In fact, it's fair to say that many of the fastest, funniest and most dedicated runners have been regular, enthusiastic patrons of our local breweries and rightly frequent the winner's podiums.

Extending this fun competition and encouraging loyal patronage of our local craft beer establishments, breweries in our local area are establishing teams of up to 15 runners and need only team shirts and a penchant for fun to join. Sign ups for the 2017 season are underway and you will find posts looking for runners on this facebook page, or you can choose to attend our 2017 Draught Night at Stargazers Theatre on 1 December at 6pm! We'll have a BBQ dinner, beer, a Brewers' Cup movie, 2016 Awards and recruitment for the 2017 season!

Teams receive points for eachA runner participating in all PPRR races with a few extra points if your runner makes it to the podium. Scoring is maintained on the PPRR website. The 2017 Brewer's Cup will be presented at the 2017 PPRR annual meeting and award ceremony where the winning team will receive a traveling trophy and $1 off ONE well-earned beer at each participating brewery for each runner on the winning team. Teams are already forming so contact the Brewer's Cup chairman if you'd like details regarding existing teams or details on how to start your own. All other questions should be sent to the Brewer's Cup Chairman, Vanessa Shawver at vanessa.shawver@gmail.com or 719-232-7960. We look forward to seeing your teams on the trail and may the best brewery win!

2017 Brewers' Cup Events

2017 RULES:

  1. Each local Colorado Springs brewery may choose up to fifteen runners per team NLT 1 Jan 2017. The roster must be received by PPRR on or before this date. Chosen runners will compete as members of the brewery team for the entire calendar year. Two substitutes are allowed during the year, at the captains’ discretion, however the runner being replaced may not return to the roster for the remainder of the season. If a team does not have a full roster by 1 Jan 2017, additions may continue to be made, although runners added after 1 Jan will not be able to accrue retroactive points for races previously run. There is no minimum age for runners, though any team members under 21 years are ineligible for any beer rewards, should their team win the cup.

  2. Teams must have jerseys or shirts depicting their assigned brewery and wear them in each race to be awarded points. One exception to this rule are the Full Moon Runs ONLY, where team shirts are not required, but encouraged. Runners identified or reported on the course without the appropriate team shirt will be ineligible for any race points.

  3. Teams will receive points for each PPRR race attended and additional points for podium finishes (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place). Teams receive one point for each runner that participates in any PPRR race wearing the team shirt or jersey. Runners must complete the race to be eligible for scoring. 5. Scoring will be tallied and published after each race on the PPRR Brewers’ Cup page.

  6. The official Brewers’ Cup will be awarded at the annual PPRR Membership meeting and Fall Series Award Banquet. The winning brewery will receive a trophy to display until the following year.

  7. A separate award ceremony will be held exclusively for Brewers’ Cup participants, where numerous other awards will be presented including Division winners, Most Valuable Runner, Team Spirit Award and Most Improved Runner.

  8. Winners of the Brewers’ Cup team will be eligible for $1 off ONE pint of beer at all other participating breweries. This encourages patronage of all participating breweries, while rewarding runners for a successful season.

2016 Rules
  1. Each local Colorado Springs brewery may choose up to fifteen (15) runners NLT 1 Jan 2016. The roster must be received by PPRR on or before this date. Chosen runners will compete as members of the brewery team for the entire calendar year. No substitutes can be made after 1 Jan of the competition year, but additions may be made if a team does not have a full roster on 1 Jan. Runners added after 1 Jan will not be able to accrue retroactive points for races previously run. There is no minimum age for runners, though any team members under 21 years are ineligible for any beer rewards, should their team win the cup.

One exception for 2016: If a service member receives deployment orders, they may be replaced by another runner for the remainder of the year. All accrued points will remain and subsequent points earned by the replacement runner will count toward the overall team total.

  2. Teams must have jerseys or shirts depicting their assigned brewery and wear them in each race to be awarded points. One exception to this rule are the Full Moon Runs ONLY, where team shirts are not required, but encouraged.

  3. Teams will receive points for each PPRR race attended and additional points for podium finishes (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place). Teams receive one point for each runner that participates in any PPRR race wearing the team shirt or jersey. Runners must complete the race to be eligible for scoring. Races eligible for scoring and their assigned points are as follows:
    • Rescue Run: One point for each participant and one additional point for 2nd or 3rd place finishers in the overall or age group categories. Two additional points for 1st place finishers in either overall or age group categories. Runners may only score in age group or overall standings – not both.

Runners may only score in age group or overall standings – not both.

  4. VOLUNTEER OPTION: Runners may choose to volunteer for any of the PPRR races in lieu of actually racing. Each runner will be eligible for one point per five volunteer hours provided. Points awarded will not exceed ten, or fifty hours of volunteer work.

  5. Scoring will be tallied and published after each race on the PPRR Brewers’ Cup page.

  6. The official Brewers’ Cup will be awarded at the annual PPRR Membership meeting and Fall Series Award Banquet. The winning brewery will receive a trophy to display until the following year.

  7. Winners of the Brewers’ Cup team will be eligible for $1 off ONE pint of beer at all other participating breweries. This encourages patronage of all participating breweries, while rewarding runners for a successful season.
more information from RRCA on the policy Following guidelines from the Road Runners of Clubs of America (RRCA), Pikes Peak Road Runners discourages and in most cases, does not allow use of headphones in its races. The rationale for this is simple: the majority of our races are held on trails, which are crowded with many other runners (and sometimes other trail users). Maintaining one’s sensory capacity during such situations is paramount for the safety of all participants.
